TeamBMG are set to take on the Great North Run, the world’s largest half marathon, on the 12th of September as part of BMG Research’s 35th anniversary challenge.

The team are planning to raise at least £1,500 between them towards BMG’s fundraising goal of £35,000 for Heart Research UK.  The five-strong team consists of Simon Kitchen (Client Implementation Director), Lee Cartwright (Research Director), Rob Struthers and Julie Hollingsworth (both Associate Directors), as well as Julie’s brother John Hollingsworth (travelling from Michigan, USA to take part!).

All money raised will go to the June Wiseman Memorial Fund, set up in memory of our much-missed friend and colleague who sadly passed away in 2019, at the age of just 52. The fund will be used to host Heart Research UK Masterclasses (https://heartresearch.org.uk/masterclasses-2/) which bring together heart surgeons and health professionals from around the world, to share knowledge and expertise of often life-saving surgical techniques. This shared knowledge of topics such as heart bypass, aortic surgery and heart transplantation will benefit heart patients from across the UK for many years, and ultimately help save and extend lives, creating a lasting legacy for June.

Julie Hollingsworth, Associate Director and fundraising lead at BMG said “TeamBMG is very much a mixed-ability group of runners looking to do what we can to support the fundraising whilst having some fun along the way! I’m just aiming to make it through the 13.1 miles still running and breathing (with no stopping or walking), hoping the rest of TeamBMG have also made it safely around the course and are waiting at the finish line with a much-needed drink”.

“June Wiseman, co-founder of BMG had been my line manager since 2003, she was a lovely person to work with and a hugely supportive mentor and friend to me for many years. I’m really pleased we’ve been able to get a team together to raise money in her memory, money that will help save and extend the lives of heart patients in the UK for many years to come’.Anyone wishing to support TeamBMG can sponsor them through a fundraising page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/teambmggnr.
