A new report from Public Health England (PHE) and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has suggested that parents should be banned from leaving the car running while waiting outside school gates, to cut air pollution.

The guidance also calls for councils to set up clean-air zones that could ban the most polluting vehicles or introduce charges.

Air quality was one of the public health issues covered in BMG’s latest Public Health Perspectives publication. Among a nationally representative UK sample, just over half of respondents (56%) described the air quality in their local neighbourhood as either good or very good, with notable variations by deprivation levels and between urban and rural areas.
