The vast majority of people agree that most jobs are for men and women – including running the country.
Nearly everyone polled (94%) said that running the country is a task for both men and women.
Although tasks such as DIY, mowing the lawn, washing the car and cleaning gutters are more likely to be assigned to men – while grocery shopping, laundry, and cleaning and dusting are more likely to be assigned to women – the majority still attributed these tasks to both genders.
However, there was a clear generational divide across all jobs – except for running the country – with older people more likely to assign a gender.
As an example, just one in five (22%) 18 – 34 year-olds assigned a gender to ‘cleaning the gutters’, compared with nearly three-quarters (73%) of those aged 75 and over.
