Philip is an experienced researcher with specialist interests including the economy, business, the labour market, and skills. He has obtained three degrees from UK universities but so long ago that he can’t remember which ones. His theoretical role models are George Best, Joe Pesci in ‘Goodfellas’, and Lord Lucan. In practice, his main relaxation is sitting in a comfortable chair thinking about things (such as the limitations of the Theory of General Relativity, how much GDP growth would be stimulated by a cut in VAT to 15%, and whether David Moyes was the right choice for Manchester United). In 2011 he won the Welcome Break award for most fried breakfasts eaten in motorway service stations.
