An exclusive BMG poll commissioned by the Independent shows that, of the top three potential candidates for the Tory leadership, Boris Johnson would have the biggest draw as leader.

When asked which would encourage a vote for the Conservative party the most, as leader, the results that 50% would vote Conservative if Boris Johnson was leader, 31% Theresa May and 18% George Osborne.

The results are less strong amongst current Conservative supporters, with Boris Johnson on 46%, George Osborne on 33% and Theresa May on 21%.
