The SRA is a public interest regulator committed to setting, promoting and securing the standards of behaviour and professional performance necessary to ensure that consumers receive a good standard of service and that the rule of law is upheld.

The SRA commissioned BMG Research to undertake a programme of work to identify the knowledge, skills and attributes (KSAs) required of solicitors, which will form a basis for the SRA’s development of a Competence Statement for the profession.

The research considered both the views of qualified solicitors themselves, and the views of those who have used their services – both individual and business consumers – and encompassed both qualitative and quantitative approaches with each audience.
