Recent years have seen #DogsAtPollingStations trending on Twitter as people tie up their cute canines outside polling booths up and down the country while they cast their ballots.

However, contrary to popular belief, pets are allowed inside polling stations, so long as they don’t disrupt the vote.

According to our research, only 22% of the British public seem to be aware of this, while over a third (34%) think pets aren’t allowed inside polling stations.

So perhaps this election we’ll see #DogsInPollingStations trending instead.
