Building a Better Future: Early Years and Childcare Plan was launched by the Welsh Government in 2013 and clearly defines their ambitions for children in Wales, and the workforce, over the next 10 years. A key element of the plan is to undertake and develop a 10 year Workforce Plan for the Early Years and Childcare Workforce in Wales, for which the Welsh Government requires robust and timely data on the workforce to secure EU funding.

BMG Research are currently undertaking an online survey of the Early Years, Childcare and Play Workforce on behalf of Care Council for Wales. The purpose of the survey is to develop an accurate and evidence-based picture of the current Early Years and Childcare landscape in Wales, including sector-wide information on the level of qualifications held, gaps in provision, training needs, recruitment and Welsh language use. The findings will inform the policy direction and the development of the Early Years 10 year Workforce Plan.

Postal and telephone support will be provided to engage as widely as possible across the sector. All responses to the survey are confidential and no setting or manager will be identified in the reporting. The report will be delivered in March 2014.
